Getting Involved - Pastoral Care

Our Lady of Ransom Bereavement Group

This is an extremely active support group for those who have been bereaved. It offers friendship and comfort.   Everyone who has lost a loved one is contacted by the group so that they are aware that confidential help by trained advisors is available if they require it.   There are social activities such as lunches and tea parties which are very well attended, and home visits.   The group also provides welcomers for the Requiem Masses.

The contact is Audrey, and she can be reached through the Parish Office. Just leave a message with reception during office hours, 9:30am to 1:00pm Mondays to Fridays on 01323 723222 and she will get back to you.

 St Vincent de Paul Society

The purpose of St Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic Organisation of lay people founded in Parish 1833 by Frederick Ozanam and his companions. Placed under the patronage of St Vincent de Paul, it is inspired by his thinking and his works. The Society seeks, in a spirit of justice and charity, to help those who are suffering. It does this by a person-to-person involvement of its members. Faithful to the spirit of its founders, it renews itself and adapts to the changing conditions of the world.  All members are listed in files held at National Council and each active member requires to be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).

People who would like to be involved but haven't any spare time at the moment are most welcome to become a Friend of the Society and support it with a regular donation.

Eastbourne is lucky enough to have two Conferences, both of which are flourishing.

Our Lady of Ransom and St Gregory's Conference meets on Monday evenings at 6pm in the Parish Centre. Meetings on average are held twice a month throughout the year. They usually last between 45 minutes and an hour. They consist of opening prayers followed by a spiritual reading. The minutes of the last meeting are read and any matters arising from them are discussed. Then there is the treasurer's report followed by discussions about visits, or other works done by the members since the last meeting, and any problems are discussed and resolved. New cases are allotted. All cases are dealt with in strict confidence. The meeting finishes with closing prayers.

Contact is through the Parish Office.   Just leave a message with reception during office hours, 9:30am to 1:00pm Mondays to Fridays on 01323 723222 and a member of the Society will get back to you.

St Agnes Conference meets on the first and third Thursday of the month at 2:30pm in St Agnes Hall.   They start with prayers and reflection on a spiritual reading relevant to the aims of the Society. Dissemination of information about the Society from National, Central and District Councils is provided. There is an update on local needs, with the allocation of people who require a visit or assistance in any way. A secret collection is taken for the needs of others. This Conference also corresponds with, and supports, two Conferences in Kerala , India .

Contact is through Carol (President) on 01323 488536.
